Nope, it's not the "Brady Bunch" song with kids singing (you know, the one I've been blabbering about all summer and am STILL working on with Jack). It's a different one that Jack recorded with the same message—NEVER MEMORIZE WORDS YOU CAN JUST READ!

I love this song so much because it shows WHY Secret Stories is NOT a program, or even a supplement to one...just a way to figure out words that are in them! If kids don't know the "secrets," how can they read the words? The more phonics Secrets they know and the sooner they know them, the more words they can read. And the more words they can read the more they SO read, and the more phonics practice they get.

This is the "Matthew Effect" applied to reading achievement, and it's the best way to explain the "need for speed" when it comes advancing earlier access to the code kids NEED to READ. Otherwise, kids are just looking at words all day long in the reading/phonics program when they could be READING them. This is the ultimate goal of science of reading-based instruction—to never make kids memorize words they can easily READ! 📖 👧🏻📝
