Providing "Deliverable Buckets" for Complex Phonics Knowledge

State-mandated training on the Science of Reading to equip teachers with strong phonics knowledge is not enough. To be impactful, teachers must know how to activate this newfound knowledge. To do this, they must have "easily deliverable buckets" to get this information to the end users, who are 5 years old and eating their shoes. This is what the Secret Stories are. They are tools to help teachers deliver complex phonics knowledge faster, easier and more effectively alongside a structured literacy curriculum.

When doing professional development, I often come out either just before or just after LETRS training to provide teachers with these "deliverable buckets" to help them organize the new information for easy and efficient delivery.

To that end, I wanted to share some picture points from a "soon to be released" blog post that's not quite complete, but will at least give some insight into how to activate complex phonics knowledge gained through LETRS training (or other SoR-based learning modules).

The pictures below provide a quick preview of the upcoming post, showing that teaching phonics isn't rocket science—nor should it be given the end user—and how neuroscience carves a clear. child-centered path via the science of learning.
